Aguas de Mondariz has turned itself into a pioneering company in the innovation and renovation of its packaging. In 1998 it was the first Spanish mineral water bottling and distribution company to substitute PET bottles for PVC, and now it has just become the first
company in the sector to introduce a new ergonomic cap, which is easier to open and respects the environment.
This new top, the Bericap HexaLite model 29/25, makes it easier to open the PET bottles as it reduces the opening torque (the total force required to open the bottle), and is gold – previous tops were blue. This is an evolution of the trimmer top introduced by Aguas de Mondariz two years ago. This new top, just like the previous one, is manufactured more efficiently and is therefore more ecological that those normally used in the mineral water market.
According to Alberto Cabadas, the Aguas de Mondariz Water Quality and Environmental Director, “this improvement required an important investment, because although the change was small, it affected different steps in the bottling process”. Alberto Cabadas points out that “the introduction of this new cap is part of the quality and sustainability policies being carried out by the company in the last few years” and, above all, “represents Aguas de Mondariz’ decision to actively respond to it’s the concerns of its consumers, who had complained about their perceived difficulty in opening the bottles”.
“Easier to open”
“Two years ago, Aguas de Mondariz made a significant effort to innovate and introduced a trimmer cap which was lighter and sustainable, in order to get ahead of the Law on packaging and residues, which establishes criteria for the reduction of weight and volume of packaging.
This improvement, acclaimed from the environmental standpoint, was responded to by consumers, who considered that it made the bottles more difficult to open. For this reason, and following a new dedicated research effort, we have now introduced this new ergonomic cap which is easier to open,” states Alberto Cabadas.
The Water Quality and Environmental Director highlights that “the Aguas de Mondariz PET bottles are 100% recyclable and all residue from the bottling process is also recycled”.
Thus, Alberto Cabadas points out that with the implantation of new Technologies and improvement processes in the closure phase, Aguas de Mondariz has reduced its use of PET by 3,400 tons and of polyethylene by 350 tons in recent years.
